Not gonna lie, Kpop has been disappointing this year. There wasn’t much stand out releases and most songs just sound the same with instrumental beat drops that has been overused ever since 2017. That’s why I spent more time these days listening to music from the past years. Though I don’t remember why, I stumbled upon BABY V.O.X’s music.
Though I have been a Kpop stan for a long time now (a decade already…), I had never listen to much of Baby V.o.x music, despite being fairly familiar with music of their peers like S.E.S and Fin.K.L. But now I have to say, out of the trio of these OG girlgroups, Baby V.O.X has the best music!
Both S.E.S and Fin.K.L were known as “fairies” of the industry due to their innocent concept, so this is where Baby V.O.X stood out. They were literally the original girl-crush, with strong choreos and edgy, dark stylings. Even when they did a cute song like YaYaYa, they pulled a GFriend and added a dance break in between (see video below)
Their songs are also surprisingly modern. Well at least I still feel like they aren’t outdated even when I heard it now. From the bubbly YaYaYa, Get Up which is influenced from 80s American pop, bad-ass Killer, bringing out their inner Latinos in Why, to the festive Coincidence… Baby V.O.X really got it all in their discography.
One thing I also love about the group is how each members have their own charms. All 5 girls have their own charms and roles in the group, literally no one felt out of place in the group. You can see how all of them have different charms when watching their stages. And all the members are still close to each other, so maybe a comeback is still possible?
Never too late to stan a group btw. I stan Rainbow after they disbanded and months later, I still got to experience their 10th anniversary comeback.
So… STAN BABY V.O.X!
